The Ned

A 1920s bank headquarters reborn as London's most electrifying city hotel. 250 rooms, 10 restaurants, live music nightly, and an underground world of spa, pool, and a James Bond vault. Big never looked this good.

The Highs

Wonderful - sensitive - restoration
An energy and buzz that turns a Sunday night in the financial district into the hottest ticket in London
An underground city — gym, spa, 20m pool, hammam, and a vault that inspired Goldfinger
10 restaurants that are actually good, not just "hotel restaurant good"

Stuff You Should Know

This is a big hotel — 250 rooms big. If you want small and intimate, look elsewhere. The City of London location is excellent for architecture lovers and tube access — Bank station is literally at the door — but it’s a business district, not the West End. The Ned creates its own scene rather than borrowing from the neighborhood. The vault bar is closed on Sundays — learn from my mistake. Kids are allowed but the lively, late-night atmosphere is better suited to couples, solo travelers, and groups.

A 1920s Banking Hall Turned Into London's Most Exciting Dining Scene

Picking where to eat here is its own kind of problem — a good one. Ten restaurants are carved into the original banking hall and basement, separated by 92 green verdite columns and old walnut teller counters. Cecconi’s does Italian with a cult-following lobster spaghetti. Kaia handles Japanese. There’s an American diner, a Mexican cantina, Californian health food, and Lutyens Grill for proper tableside carving in the old bank manager’s office. The Parlour downstairs offers jazz and cabaret over dinner. Sundays bring Ned’s Feast — limitless lobster, oysters, and a roaming Bloody Mary trolley. The only real challenge is choosing. 240 dishes at dinner. Before dessert.
