The Londoner

London's self-styled "super boutique" — 350 rooms across 16 floors, eight above Leicester Square and six below. A vertical city resort that somehow engineers intimacy at scale, with serious design credentials and a subterranean spa to match.

The Highs

The Residence — a guest-only members club most guests don't know exists
The Retreat — a full spa, pool and wellness floor six floors underground
Design that's genuinely distinctive without trying too hard
Leicester Square on your doorstep — theatre, Soho, everything (or is that a low?)

Stuff You Should Know

The rooms are on the smaller side for the price — recalibrate expectations on square footage, even if the quality is there. Leicester Square is the location’s greatest strength and occasional liability: brilliant for theatre and transport, relentless if you want quiet. Book a poolside cabana in The Retreat in advance — they go fast. The Residence is guest-only and genuinely private, but you have to find it; ask at check-in. Rates typically start around £300 a night and climb sharply for suites.

Six Venues, One Building — West End Dining Done Right

The Londoner doesn’t do one restaurant — it does six, each with a distinct personality. Whitcomb’s handles the serious dining: French-Mediterranean, clean plating, reliable execution — good for pre-theatre or when you simply don’t want to leave. Joshua’s Tavern keeps it casual at street level, gin-forward and unpretentious. The rooftop lounge at 8 goes Japanese-inspired: small plates, cocktails, city views — this is where the evening energy is. The Champagne Bar off the lobby does exactly what it says. And for guests only, The Residence serves all-day food and drinks in a room that makes room service feel unnecessary. Strong across the board. Nothing revolutionary. Consistently excellent.
