Lundies House

A former 19th-century manse transformed into Scotland's most sophisticated Highland hideaway. Museum-quality art meets Scandinavian design in this retreat overlooking Kyle of Tongue, where intimate tastes good.

The Highs

Courtyard fire pit that becomes the social heart of the property
Museum-quality art collection seamlessly integrated into historic architecture
Included dinner that rivals Scotland's best restaurants
Genuine intimacy - just 11 rooms in a house-party atmosphere

Stuff You Should Know

Located in remote Tongue village (population 300) – nearest airport is Inverness, 2 hours away by car. The converted steading studios around the courtyard are the rooms to book, offering more privacy and the coveted fire pit access.

Dinner and breakfast are included – no à la carte options, but the daily-changing menu is – um wow – and the kitchen was great about making substitutions for dietary restrictions. The house operates more like staying with sophisticated friends than a traditional hotel. Book well in advance – there’s almost nothing comparable in the Scottish Highlands. Note that in the main House & Studios: Children under 10 years old are not permitted — this place has a very adult vibe.

Highland Cuisine Meets Nordic Sophistication

Forget everything you think you know about Scottish hotel food. The daily-changing 3-4 course dinner menu showcases local game, fresh seafood, and foraged ingredients elevated with serious technique. There are no menus – just trust the kitchen to deliver something extraordinary each night, which they did; big time. The wine’s natural and biodynamic and complements, rather than competes, with the Highland ingredients. Breakfast includes homemade bread, preserves, and cooked-to-order dishes. In warmer months, dinner moves to the heated courtyard for barbecue under the stars – Scottish dining doesn’t get more romantic or memorable.
